Nicholas Haslam Works Magic for London Collector
and Kaizen creates dressing rooms one of a kind
Kaizen furniture have the pleasure of working with the world’s finest interior designers’. Amongst others, we have created furniture on various projects for Nicky Haslam. Besides the satisfaction of doing a good job and happy customers, it’s of course always great to see these projects featured in the press.
American interiors magazine Architectural Digest looks in its December issue at one of Nicky Haslam’s latest creations, a Victorian house in the Holland Park area of London. After renovation the family home of an art collector blossoms in Northern Europe country house style. Creating an stunning and livable atmosphere by the seamless extension of materials, colours and features. One of the centre elements is the repeated usage of chintz throughout the house.
Kaizen Furniture have been appointed to design, create and install His and Her dressing rooms. The internal layout of the bespoke dressing room storage was discussed in great detail direct with the client, to ensure the best possible use of space to meet the clients wants and needs. During the design development process Kaizen also suggested integrated door operated lighting for the cupboards interiors and open shoe drawers. This added a great deal to the ambience of the dressing rooms and from a practical point of view enabled much easier location and selection of garments, shoes and accessories.
Bespoke tassel handles were designed to use as door and drawer handles. Kaizen had stainless steel cables woven into the cord to make the tassels strong enough to use as a pull for years to come. Over 150 pieces of Bespoke hand cut and antiqued mirrors were used in the doors, drawer fronts, pilasters and behind every piece of lattice work. On the door mirrors, the antique effect was hand applied to the border only, so these could still be used effectively for dressing.
As part of His Dressing room scheme we designed a jib door hidden seamlessly into a heavily embellished mirror frame, with an identical fixed mirror frame at the opposite end of the room to create balance and symmetry.
